The new Packaging Act (VerpackG) is expected to come into force as of July 3, 2021. This is intended to bring the Packaging Act into line with the current EU directives and to improve its enforcement. Especially important for you is the change of the registration procedure.

Currently, manufacturers are only required to sign up for retail or group packaging filled with goods that usually end up as waste with the consumer. One year after the new Packaging Act will come into force, July 2022, there will be a registration requirement for producers for all packaging filled with goods, for example for:

Transport packaging. With regard to pallets, only single-use pallets are in scope
Commercial sales packaging: packaging that is filled with products on site
Sales packs of filling goods containing hazardous substances
Reusable packaging
