What's new?
As of August 18, 2024, there are new requirements that enter into force, next to the section on the waste management of batteries that enters into force from August 18, 2025 and onwards.
What will change as of August 18, 2024?
Conformity assessment technical documentation should be prepared for stationary battery energy storage systems (SBESS) (Art. 12). Up-to-date data for determining the state of health and expected lifetime of batteries must be contained in the battery management system of stationary battery energy storage systems, LMT batteries, and electric vehicle batteries (Art. 10 & Art. 14).
Additionally, portable batteries (whether or not incorporated into appliances) must not contain more than 0.01% of lead (expressed as lead metal) by weight.
> Please take these changes into account when selling your batteries. Most of the obligations that now enter into force must be taken care of by the battery manufacturer. Make sure that you have contact established with your manufacturer and that the technical documentation of the batteries you sell is taken care of.
