UK also promotes mandatory B2B e-invoicing

The government of the United Kingdom (UK) has announced a package of reforms and indicated that it would like to promote a wider use of electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) and will launch a consultation on this topic.

The aim of the consultation is to gather input from businesses on how HMRC can support investment in and encourage e-invoicing uptake. On 30 October 2024, the UK Chancellor in the Autumn Budget confirmed that a consultation will be published early 2025 to establish standards and increase the adoption of electronic invoicing.

The introduction of e-invoicing aims to significantly reduce administrative tasks, improve cash flow, boost productivity, introduce automation, and reduce errors in tax returns, all helping to close the tax gap. At this time there is no obligation to use B2B e-invoicing.
