Oman joins the International Road Transport (TIR) convention

Due to Oman becoming a contracting party to the United Nations' TIR (International Road Transport/Transports Internationaux Routiers) Convention, the Carnet TIR will enter into force as of 29 May 2019. The TIR convention applies to the road transport of goods across one or more frontiers without intermediate reloading.

A TIR carnet makes it possible to transport goods across the border of affiliated countries, without having to unload the goods in the meantime. Another advantage of the TIR carnet is that goods are not subject to payment of duties or taxes with regard to imports or exports in the event of border crossings.

Issuing organizations must be accredited by the customs authorities. For Oman, these include the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) and the public transport company Mwasalat (Arabic for "transport").
