The Ministry of Environmental Protection in Israel approved and published the Packaging Management Law which introduces producer responsibility for household and industrial packaging waste.
Reducing the amount of packaging waste, the prevention of landfilling and the encouragement to reuse packaging were the biggest incentives for this law. By 2015 producers must collect and recycle up to 60% of the amount Put on the Market each year in Israel. Furthermore the producers have labeling and reporting obligations:
- producers must mark each packaging with information regarding weight, type of raw material and designation of the packaging for recycling, recovery or reuse.
- they also have to report about the type, weight and recovery method of the packaging they are responsible for.
