The ATA Carnet needs to stay with the goods and as it can be valid for 12 calendar months and can be used for multiple trips, it can be a challenge to keep the document complete. Not to mention the discipline of the users to collect the stamps manually at each Customs office at the time of Exportation, Importation, Re-exportation and Re-importation.
Digitization of this document is a nice step forward. The pilot participating countries starts in the summer of 2019. We will keep you updated.
When to use an ATA Carnet & What are the benefits?
Does your organization often exports goods for temporary use, like:
- Commercial Samples
- Professional Equipment (Tools of the Trade)
- Goods for Fairs & Exhibitions (limited to 6 months)
*See the complete list of Merchandise categories covered by Carnet here.
You can then use an ATA Carnet as a temporary export-import document. With this document you don’t have to pay duties and import taxes on merchandise that will be re-exported within 12 months. Carnets are also known as Merchandise Passports or Passports for Goods.
