Gabon Conformity Program PROGEC: New update!

Since January 1, 2016, exporters and importers trading with Gabon must comply with the requirements of the Gabonese government agency Agence Gabonaise de Normalisation (AGANOR) conformity assessment program called PROGEC in order to clear their goods.

In September, we gave an update about the expansion of PROGEC. As of January 2021 there will be a new update and the scope of the program will be extended again.

Mandatory approved certificate of conformity

All regulated products that fall within the scope of the conformity program require a certificate of conformity, approved by a certified inspection agency, to be imported into Gabon.

The update of the program means that you will soon need such a certificate for even more products. The expansion mainly concerns consumer goods. From July 1, 2021, you will need a certificate of conformity for almost all consumer goods. The main exceptions where you do not need a certificate of conformity are:

  • Live animals and animal products
  • Vegetable products
  • Foods
