Croatia introduces important developments in WEEE legislation

Earlier this month, the environmental authorities in Croatia presented a draft amendment to their domestic WEEE legislation. This amendment aims to clear up some of the differences that currently exist between the European Directive and the Croatian national legislation.

One of the major changes will be the introduction of an EEE producer register. All producers in Croatia will be required to register with this national body, which will be overseen by the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund.

Foreign producers also need to pay close attention. This legislation will require all foreign companies that sell directly to Croatian end users to appoint an authorized representative in Croatia. This obligation is already found in most EU countries for WEEE (and will be introduced for packaging in the future as well).
