Last month we reported on the merger in France of two compliance schemes for packaging (Eco Emballages and Ecofolio), which gave birth to CITEO. As it turns out, there remains to be a lot of movement in the area of compliance schemes in France. This time the compliance schemes for handling WEEE are at the center of some major changes.
Two of the largest WEEE compliance schemes in France, Eco-systèmes and Récyclum will continue as 1 organization as of 1 January 2018, called ESR. The president of Eco-systèmes, Alain Grimm Hecker, has been appointed as the president of the new organization. This merger will make ESR the largest French WEEE compliance scheme, with a put-on-market share of over 80%. The organization will be authorized to handle most categories of WEEE. The only exception is the category of PV panels, these will still need to be handled by PVCycle France.
