Call for legally binding quality standards for WEEE

WEEE Forum, a non-profit association based in Belgium, has urged the European Commission to set up legally binding quality standards for the collection and treatment of WEEE.

WEEE Forum

According to WEEE Forum there are too many differences between Member States of the EU with regard to the quality of treatment of WEEE. In several countries WEEE is not reported as properly collected and treated. In order to create an equal and fair playing field in the EU, WEEE Forum recommends the European Commission to make compliance with the EN 50625 standards mandatory in the EU.

By obligating all WEEE recyclers to these standards (which is already mandatory in the Netherlands & France), WEEE Forum expects the treatment of WEEE to improve drastically. As a producer of WEEE, it is wise to keep in mind that changes in this process may occur in the future.
