Belgium delays VAT chain rollout

The Belgian tax authorities (FPS Finance), together with ITAA, have announced a strategic postponement of the VAT chain rollout.

This decision provides companies and professionals with more time to adapt and to focus on the implementation of mandatory e-invoicing. A new implementation date will be communicated later.

What to do for now?

  • The new VAT account number will not be activated after 1 October 2025.
  • Until further notice, payments for periodic VAT returns must continue to use the existing number: BE22 6792 0030 0047.

This delay gives organisations breathing space, but businesses are advised to continue preparations for e-invoicing without delay.
