Digital ATA Carnet now available for the UK, Switzerland and Norway

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce expects additional countries to adopt the digital ATA Carnet system in the near future.

What is an ATA Carnet?

An ATA Carnet is often referred to as a "passport for goods." It allows organizations to temporarily import goods into participating countries without paying import duties, taxes, or VAT.

ATA Carnets are commonly used for:

• Professional equipment and tools
• Commercial samples
• Exhibition and trade fair goods
• Demonstration materials

The goods must be re-exported after temporary use and returned to the country of origin.

How does the digital ATA Carnet work?

To use a digital ATA Carnet, users must download the free ATA Carnet app developed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), available in both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

The application process largely remains the same as for a traditional ATA Carnet. Once the application has been reviewed and approved, the applicant receives a Carnet ID and access code that can be used within the app. The digital ATA Carnet supports the entire temporary movement process, including export, import, re-export, and re-import formalities.
