Do you trade in wood, cocoa, coffee, soy, rubber, palm oil or beef? From 30 December 2025, you must comply with the new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This law requires you to prove that your products are:
Not sourced from deforested land (after 31 December 2020),
- Produced in line with local legislation,
- Covered by a due diligence statement.
What do you need to do?
You must set up a Due Diligence System (DDS) with three steps:
1. Collect information
- Geolocation of plots,
- Production date or period,
- Supplier details,
- Proof of legal and deforestation-free production.
2. Risk assessment
- Check for risks of deforestation or forest degradation,
- Verify supplier data,
- Consider EU country risk classifications.
3. Risk mitigation
- Request additional documentation,
- Carry out on-site checks,
- Only source from suppliers with negligible risk.
Due diligence statement and checks
- Submit your due diligence statement in the EU TRACES system before placing products on the market.
- Keep all documents for at least 5 years.
- The NVWA and Customs will perform checks on traceability and compliance.
Risks and opportunities
Non-compliance can lead to fines up to 4% of turnover, product seizure or even a temporary trade ban. But there’s also an opportunity: by making your supply chains transparent and sustainable, you can stand out in an increasingly green market.
