The first substantive issues from the DMS Import pilot are also starting to become clear. There are still some challenges in processing preference codes and decision codes, for which adjustments have been made. Furthermore, the various scenarios are being tested in the Business Test Environment (BTO). Customs considers the pilot successful and sees no obstacles to roll-out further. Several more declarants will therefore be connected on the pilot software-suppliers this month.
Annex B and all Customs reference books are becoming increasingly important as reference tools in the declaration process at this stage. Only now will it become clear how new the various facets of the declaration process are and what the impact is on your own process. The DMS roll-out is now really taking shape and the scope for further delay is gone. If, as a declarant, you do not yet have a view on planning the migration, contact your software supplier for further coordination.
Companies that will be working with DMS 4.1 will be approached by Customs in the region for coordination of the review process. Make sure you stay aligned to developments so that you continue to manage expectations for your business in the interesting period ahead.
