The Spanish government has delayed the introduction of mandatory electronic invoicing (e-invoicing) for B2B transactions until 2027. Originally, the rollout was expected to happen sooner, but delays in developing the necessary technical specifications have pushed the implementation back.
This postponement is largely due to the need for more time to fully develop and test the technical infrastructure and systems required for a smooth transition to e-invoicing. The additional time will help ensure that businesses can adapt seamlessly to the new invoicing requirements and that the systems are compliant with EU digital invoicing regulations.
Despite the delay, companies are encouraged to begin preparing for the transition early. Once implemented, e-invoicing is expected to streamline administrative processes, enhance transparency, and bring benefits to both businesses and government by reducing errors and improving efficiency in invoicing operations. The new target date for the rollout is now set for 2027.
