On the 27th of May Italy has adopted a Ministerial Decree which defines rules and criteria for the provision of financial guarantees that is in charge to WEEE Producers. Being into force since June 11 th, these guarantees have to be submitted by the producer/individual scheme or by the collective scheme to which the producer has joined. These schemes accordingly provide the guarantee on behalf of all its members.

The guarantee is only requested to cover the management of WEEE from private households. For professional WEEE the guarantee is represented by the membership to a collective / individual scheme approved by the Italian Ministry of Environment. The guarantee is yearly provided. Obliged subjects either individually or through a scheme send to the WEEE Coordination Center the expected cost for the management of private households WEEE in order to calculate the amount of the financial guarantee. The guarantee covers activities such as collection, pick-up, transport, treatment, recovery and disposal for each calendar year. Furthermore, the Coordination Center defines the additional coefficients (e.g. risk indices) that determine the total amount to be paid.
