Belgium Goes Ahead with Introduction eInvoicing on 1st of January 2026

Belgium has decided to go ahead with the introduction of mandatory eInvoicing obligations as from the 1st of January 2026 without a phased introduction.

From January 1st 2026, structured electronic invoices are required to be exchanged directly via an invoicing software connected to Peppol, a secure and structured European exchange network. The obligation only applies to B2B transactions between resident taxpayers and will not apply to B2C transactions. However, these companies will also have to use a software connected to the Peppol network in order to be able to receive e-invoices from their suppliers.

A list of compliant software packages will be published by the Belgian administration in the coming months. At the moment it is still unclear if foreign based companies only registered for VAT in Belgium, will also be required to be able to receive e-invoices.
