Upcoming WEEE & battery legislation in Singapore

The government in Singapore is currently taking serious steps towards implementing WEEE & battery legislation, similar to the legislation active in Europe.

The expected moment of implementation is still far away (2021 at the earliest), but the proposed measures will impact many producers. For example, the definition of producer is extended to cover foreign companies that sell via online distance sales. As seen in Europe, this extended definition will have consequences for a wide variety of companies.

Producers of IT products, all types of batteries (portable, industrial and automotive) and large household appliances will need to pay extra attention. These type of products were mentioned specifically in the announcement made by the National Environment Agency in March.
