Summary of the most commonly made mistakes on AEO applications
According to the AEO National Centre in Rotterdam, the quality of the applications for AEO (Authorised Economic Operator) certificates has deteriorated dramatically. Many applications are either incomplete or do not satisfy the formal requirements.
Because incomplete AEO applications involve additional work for both Customs and applicants, the most common mistakes are summarised below:
- No recent original extract from the Chamber of Commerce. Customs frequently receives copies, or extracts which are over six months old.
- An application form which has not been signed by a director who has the authority to do so. If a director only has joint authorisation, the other director(s) is (are) also required to sign, or a signed letter of authority must be submitted.
- The signer’s job title/position has not been specified.
- Not all of the appendices were enclosed.
We advise prospective AEO applicants to carefully read the explanatory notes provided with the application form and not to forget to enclose the compulsory appendices. You will find additional information on this website under AEO.
