Commission urges Poland to comply with EU packaging waste legislation
The packaging Directive was transposed into the Polish legislation on 11 May 2001. On 17 February 2011 the commission sent a letter of formal notice because several shortcomings were identified.
Among others, these shortcomings relate to the prevention of packaging waste, the recycling rates for glass and the provisions concerning data to be included in the national database on packaging and waste packaging. In April 2011, Poland agreed to amend its domestic law. However, the Commission had concerns about the pace of the changes and therefore sent a reasoned opinion on October 27th, asking Poland to comply with the legislation within two months.
